As a marine biologist interested in the deep ocean, I can't help but wonder about what the long-term effects of this will be. Perehaps the surface oil is only a small part of this problem. What about the subsurface oil and dispersants which are there in uncounted gallons? It is clear that the damage is catastrophic, with risks to the health of marine wildlife, the coastal wetlands, gulf fisheries, and coastal economics.
I am not a poet or song lyric writer, but the following has been taking form in my mind since the explosion, thanks in part to Sarah Palin.:
"Drill, Baby, Drill
Burn, Baby, Burn
Spill, Baby, Spill
Pollute, Baby, Pollute
Boom It, Baby, Boom It
Deperse It, Baby, Disperse It
CYA, Baby, CYA
Why, Baby, Why?
Top Kill It, Baby, Top Kill It
Cap It, Baby, Cap It
Relief Wells, Baby, Relief Wells
Beyond Petroleum, Baby, Beyond Petroleum
When, Baby, When?"
